upgrade pc

My video card at work fried while trying to insert more RAM. Shit. So now I’m down to the horseshit card that I had kicking around. I bought a brand spanking new video card with 256mb ram only to find that PCIE is a new card type…dammit all…that doesn’t have a slot to go into on my trusty ol ASUS A7somthin… mobo.

Shoot.

Boss comes in today and sees me on floor, and asks what I’m doin. I reply, “well, I’m just a dumbass. Bought a video card that doesn’t even fit on my mobo. He says, not to return it, but upgrade mobo.”

Well…

I delved a little deeper into the latest and greatest these days.

Shit has changed dammit. Can’t they just stop for a while. You know, not progress, keep things nice and stale? Noooooo!

*sigh*

Ok, new mobo, new cpu, and new power supply to go with my new video card. At least $600 there…cause who would settle for second rate stuff since I’m upgrading and all that?

I’m told that I may not need to reinstall windows. I might get away with just swapping out new parts. Heh, we’ll see about that.

Now I’m looking at at least $600, and about 2 days worth of rebuild/reinstall, etc…

*sigh*

Progress sucks, ya know?

  1. I hear you. So much.

I mean, I’d love some PCIE cards, a nice raid 0+1 of SATAs, some uber memory, and and and.

But my computer works, right? And I don’t have time to play games.

Breaking it’s the way to go. 😉

    1. Thing is I already bought the PCIE video card.

I just *have* to get the new ASUS board that has 2 PCIE slots…just in case I get a new something ornother.

This new board also has plug and play external SATA. I mean…cmon!

      *sigh*

So I took a break from all the geekdom (it’ll take me months just to make a decision anyway) to attach the axels to my daughter’s pinewood derby car!

Now that is the shit. She painted it all herself…with a little help on the numbers…

      1. :hehe:

I did those in boyscouts. Er. Cubscouts. Webelos? Somewhere in there.

I didn’t think they were nearly as cool as I now think I ought to have.

Any discussion of aerodynamics, wind resistance, roll resistance? 🙂

Where did 54 come from? [[Car 54, Where Are You!?]] =)

          1. thanks 🙂

54 is just the number that we were given by the derby coordinators.

It’s part of the Indian Princesses that Colette and I are a part of.

PC issues aside, it’s kinda a cool thing. Dads and daughters that actually spend time with each other. The other dads in the “tribe” I’m in are actually my age and are not afraid to hang out with their daughters.

Anyway, there is much more on that for later. I need to sleep now 🙂

            Much awesome and goodness. 🙂

And I just realized it wouldn’t be too hard to calculate the optimum weight based on the track layout. experimentally determine wind/wheel drag coefficient. calculate %ge track sloped versus %ge track flat. optimize. 🙂

I’m getting way too excited about that.

Just installed (for the second time today, ish) trac. trac is god.
